Swedish Meatballs

There is so many varieties to do the meatballs. This is one of them.


1,5 deciliter milk

5 tablespoons of breadcrumbs

0,5 kilo minced meat

Half a peeled yellow onion, grated.

1 egg

1 teaspoon salt

 1 pinch of black pepper, or as you like

Half a teaspoon white sugar


1, Mix the milk with the breadcrumbs and leave it for 15 minutes

2, Add the minced meat, onion, egg, salt, pepper and sugar with the breadcrumb mix. Mix it all.

3, Dampen your hands and shape the meatballs, I prefer to have them pretty small. 

4, Fry them in butter.

Serve with a brown sauce, lingonberry jam and potatoes.


Add two teaspoons of butter into a pan, and heat it up. When melted add 3 table spoons of Wheat flour. Whisk, and add 3 deciliters of milk. 

Heat it up as you whisk it.

Add pepper, salt, two table spoons of chinese soy sauce and the leftovers of the butter from when you fried the meatballs. 

Let it simmer shortly, and serve with the meatballs and potatoes!

  1. Great. My late aunt lived in Stockholm nerly all her life, so I have tasted Swedish meat balls.

    I hope you will not be offended when I say this: My wife makes world’s best meat balls! 🙂
