So due to a little virus the Bushmills Whiskey event was changed into an online whiskey pairing. Martin Jurehn was leading the event together with chef Mattias Larsson that had created the menu. So instead of Mattias cooking for me, I cooked and he enjoyed. We were 15 participants, and it was great fun meeting all colleagues again.
I have been to a few whiskey and food pairings, and as a whiskey lover I think it is really great. You get a totally different food experience if you pair it right. And a nice whiskey cocktail can go really well together with some food. For the salmon above we had some Bushmills Black Bush, and they worked great together.
Jerusalem artichoke which chickpeas and Bushmills 16 yo was such a great combination! Then we moved on to a Brie with apples and Bushmills 10 yo. Yummy! The Bushmills 10 year old Single Malt really brings out the fruity notes of the whiskey!
Totally outstanding was the Bushmills 21 yo paired with Caramel Chocolate with some added Sea salt on top! The whiskey is is matured in a mixture of Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks, and then in some Madeira casks. It is produced in very limited numbers.
Bushmills is around 400 years old, and the distillery is located at Northern Ireland. One day I will hopefully visit! Until then, Sláinte!
Stay safe, keep a distance and don’t forget to have some fun!
