Hanstholm Fish Auction is Denmark’s largest and it has an annual turnover of approximately 500 million Danish Kroner! I have been to a few fish auctions all over the world, and this is a really big and well organized one. And strangely enough it didn’t smell a lot of fish.
So they handle up to 450 tons of freshly caught fish everyday at the auction that will be shipped all over Europe, and it reaches its destination in about 24 hours if its further away than Denmark. Their way of handling the fish so that it is cold all the way is fantastic!
A lot of the fish is MSC fish, like the Baltic cod or plaice. The Hanstholm Port is a busy one. there is something going on 24/7! And if you wanna visit the Fish Auction, then it opens at 06.45 everyday! And don’t forget to bring a jacket as it is really cold in there, it is 4C all year around!
When I was there the Royal Theater had a Pop up show at the Fish Auction! They are currently having Pop up shows all over Denmark to spread the joy of music.
It was a very unexpected show I had the joy to see!
Thank you!! This was fantastic!
