The Indian chain Saravanaa Bhavan has finally reached Sweden with its vegetarian food. It is the worlds biggest Indian vegetarian chain, and you can find them in a lot of country’s. The chain was founded 1981 in Chennai by Mr Rajagopal.
He was born as a low caste in a remote province, and his life is like a Cinderella story. He moved to Chennai as a teenager and started little grocery shops. He found out that there was a demand for restaurants, so he started some. Which at first didn’t go all well, but when it took of it was like a success story! He is famous for that he treats his employees well and they worship him, he has built temples in the village where he was born. One “small detail” is that he is a convicted murder, who was released on bail after a year in prison. He is not allowed to leave the country, but except that he is still living as nothing happened. And who knows what happened..
The food at the restaurants comes from different parts of Southern India. So you find both some spicy and non spicy food.
For example, you can get some golden brown yummy dosas (it’s like a wafer thin pancake) , idlis, Vada or a full meal Thali and many more delicacies.
You have the option of different Chutney’s, Currie’s and I well can just keep on going.. You should just go there, and try it out. Just make sure you order a dosa..
I had some delicious food; Mini masala dosa, Cocos chutney, Medhu Vada and some other things.
Is a real chinese restaurant in Stockholm. After 7 years in China, I like to get some good chinese food every now and then. And I’m really happy when I don’t have to cook it myself.
At China they even have a Beijing duck owen, I haven’t tried it jet, but everyone that has say’s that it is great. But what I do know is that they have a superb false Beijing duck. What is that you might think, it is shredded pork with spring onions and bean sauce. It reminds you of Beijing duck, and the same sauce is used. And you eat it with bread. The story goes that a grand father couldn’t afford to cook Beijing duck for his son, so he made it with pork instead. And when the grandson grew up to become a chef he was served the real stuff and then got the story behind it from his grand father.
They serve food from different parts of China, and it’s all really good!
I was the guide at a Food Tour at Södermalm in Stockholm today.
Great fun! I had a group from Norway, and I think I did pretty well even if it was my first tour I talked on all stops nearly. My colleague Gunilla did 2 of the stops.
One of the stops were at restaurant Nytorget 6. Its an international restaurant in the trendy part of Södermalm called SoFo(South of Folkungagatan) and it has a nice soft vibe. The food is Scandinavian with an Southern European touch. Today they had a nice platter with tuna, pork and lamb. And a cocktail, and Nytorget has some really good cocktails.
This it’s a perfect place to hang out at. But If you wanna eat, reserve a table! It’s normally pretty full in there during the evening. They are open from 7.30 during weekdays. And they serve some of Stockholm’s best breakfasts!
Danyel Couet’s Allegrine is a “french” restaurant with a Swedish touch. The name comes from Danyel’s grand mother. And she was a the one that got Danyel interested of food. The interior is spot on perfect. It has a relaxed vibe, but jet everything is just right.
The food is modern French cuisine, and you find duck A’La Orange, lobster, Cote de Boeuf, Steak Tartare etc..
For me, this is a place I just wanna come back too. Because I wanna try out the whole menue, and the place is perfect during the colder season:)
The Silo is a former grain silo located just by Nordhavn’s waterfront in Copenhagen. And lucky me, my friends live there. So after dinner we just went up there to have some cocktails. And they didn’t disappoint us! But next time I’ve gotta eat there. I know that they have some great chefs there. Both Denny Vangsted and Morten Falk. So the food should hopefully be good.

A nice detail in the bar, you can use the binoculars and look out!
